Children Investigating Science with Parents and Afterschool

Children Investigating Science with Parents and Afterschool (CHISPA) – is a project that strives to address the disparity in science achievement of Latino children in the United States. It is done in collaboration between the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), ASPIRA and the California Science Center. CHISPA is a Science Program for students in the Extended Day Program, where students are able to learn about STEM activates and participate in hands-on science experiments. CHISPA also holds a Family Science Day where families are able to visit the CA Science Center during the school year.

Project Scienctists

El Sol Academy has partnered up with Projects Scientist, a great program created to allow girls develop skills in STEM. El Sol Academy currently offers a program that allows approximately 20 girls from 6th – 8th grade develop their understanding in the area of STEM. One of the activities they do include, 6 field trips during the school year in which they learn hand on science lessons. This gives El Sol girls the opportunity to explore areas that are predominately male driven and nurture future female scientists.
