SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A group of volunteers Saturday pieced together a new part of their community, building a playground so Santa Ana children can have a place to be active and social.

More than 150 volunteers carried brightly-colored pieces of the design across a yard at El Sol Science and Arts Academy, located at 1010 North Broadway, as they assembled the much-needed playground. The school currently has limited play area and no playground for children.

Organizers from Good Neighbor Pharmacy and KaBOOM! say the playground will provide 1,000 kids in the community “one step closer to having the childhood they deserve.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was also scheduled, with U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez, State Senator Lou Correa and Santa Ana City Councilman David Benavides.

KaBOOM! is a national non-profit organization that aims to provide children living in poverty playgrounds and other opportunities where they can play.

Good Neighbor Pharmacy, a program founded by pharmaceutical giant AmerisourceBergen, is a network of independently owned and operated community pharmacies.
