OCCSL Mission Statement
The mission of the Orange County Charter School League (OCCSL) is to provide equitable, inclusive, and competitive athletic opportunities for all students, regardless of financial background, skill level, or school size. We are committed to ensuring that every student who has a desire to participate in sports is given the chance to do so in a structured, supportive, and meaningful environment.
At OCCSL, we believe that athletics is a powerful tool for character development, leadership, and personal growth. Every athlete deserves access to quality coaching, structured team experiences, and opportunities to grow both on and off the field, without the financial burden of club fees or travel programs. We aim to remove barriers so that cost never stands in the way of participation, progress, or potential.
Our programs emphasize the importance of teamwork, discipline, respect, and integrity. We expect all athletes, coaches, and teams to compete with honor, to show sportsmanship in victory and defeat, and to always represent their schools and communities with pride.
As an education-based athletic league, OCCSL strongly believes in the connection between sports participation and academic achievement. We promote the idea that student-athletes are students first. Our programs stress the importance of maintaining strong grades, demonstrating positive school citizenship, and upholding high standards of conduct both in and out of the classroom.
We also see our league as a developmental pathway for young athletes, helping prepare them for the rigor and expectations of high school-level athletics. By fostering a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity, we hope to instill lifelong values and provide a foundation for future success in athletics and beyond.
Through collaboration with schools, families, and community leaders, OCCSL is proud to be building a league where every student has a place to play, a team to grow with, and a future to look forward to.
The Orange County Charter School League (OCCSL) is an interscholastic competitive middle school sports league based in Southern California. The OCCSL was formed in 2021 to provide middle school student athletes an inclusive, no-cost opportunity to compete against one another in the sports of Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, and Cheer. Currently eleven schools within Orange County are competing in the OCCSL. Sports are an integral part of the overall school experience, helping to foster a true understanding of teamwork, responsibility, respect, discipline, and good citizenship. Organized school sports programs also ensure children and teenagers are engaged in healthy behaviors before and after the school day, providing an important outlet for their physical and mental wellbeing.
The Orange County Charter School League offers public charter middle school students the unique opportunity to represent their schools and community and develop socially, emotionally and physically in preparation for high school and beyond. In addition, the OCCSL exposes middle school student athletes to new experiences and opportunities helping each student develop an understanding that all possibilities exist.
